PARATROOPER WING Empty brass jump wings

As you all know Sam Magee, I thought you would like to hear about something Sam gave me. He handed me his jump wings and said that these were the set he wore throughout the war. I looked at him a bit puzzled, because the jump wings were brass. I asked him if he had polished all the silver off, but he said that they had always been brass. I can find no information on anyone else in the Force having brass wings, but that's what Sam had!
